{"id":3692,"date":"2014-04-28T10:21:15","date_gmt":"2014-04-28T14:21:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.consigli.com\/?p=3692"},"modified":"2020-12-09T11:06:11","modified_gmt":"2020-12-09T16:06:11","slug":"consigli-to-renovate-smithsonian-american-art-museums-renwick-gallery","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.consigli.com\/consigli-to-renovate-smithsonian-american-art-museums-renwick-gallery\/","title":{"rendered":"Consigli to Renovate Smithsonian American Art Museum\u2019s Renwick Gallery"},"content":{"rendered":"<p align=\"left\"><b>WASHINGTON, DC \u2013\u00a0\u00a0<\/b>Consigli Construction Co., Inc. has begun construction for the renovation of the Renwick Gallery, a <a href=\"http:\/\/americanart.si.edu\/visit\/about\/architecture\/renwick\/\">National Historic Landmark<\/a> and home of the Smithsonian American Art Museum\u2019s craft and decorative arts program.\u00a0 \u00a0The first comprehensive renovation of the building in 40 years will involve renewed infrastructure, enhanced historic features, and other upgrades that will make the National Historic Landmark building, originally designed in 1859, a 21<sup>st<\/sup>-century destination.<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">The renovation of the 34,000 square-foot masonry structure includes replacement of all heating, air conditioning, electrical, plumbing and fire-suppression systems and upgrades to security, phone and data communication systems. Wireless access will be installed throughout the building.\u00a0 Original window configuration will be re-created and two vaulted ceilings in the second floor galleries will be restored.\u00a0 The basement will be reconfigured to provide additional staff offices and workshops.<\/p>\n<p>The building will be outfitted with an all-LED lighting system, a landmark advance in energy efficiency that will reduce energy needs by as much as 70 percent.
